- 解釈：登り詰めた百尺（一尺は約30㎝）の竿の天辺（てっぺん）で、なおも一歩を進めようとする。頂上を極めても、それに満足せず、更に進歩を図ることをいう。
- Literal：He follows the head of the pole of 100shaku (unit of length), and one step.
- Interpretation：Even if it reaches to an extreme of a summit, it is it not being satisfied with it, and also aiming at progress.
- 類義：百丈の竿灯。
